WELCOME TO TEAM MCVET!

Team MCVET kicked off the month of May with their second social event. Rain couldn’t get in the way of Team MCVET and Helping Up enjoying a fun day in the sand, playing some beach volleyball. Although the previous night’s rain created some messy conditions, both teams couldn’t be stopped on the courts!!

Residential members Kevin R. and Jacob G. joined BOMF non-residential members for the Charm City Run in Timonium. Following the race, runners stuck around for a raffle that featured sweet BOMF gear and a Charm City Run prize. Members enjoyed a generous discount from Charm City Run and took home some new gear!

Many residential members of MCVET competed in their own MCVET 5K and 10K races in May. After an early morning of finishing up race preparations, residential members had a strong showing in both races, demonstrating how far along their fitness has progressed in just a few months. Arnold S. was the top MCVET finisher in both 5K and 10K races. Deborah B. walked away as the top female MCVET finisher!

New residential members that joined this month, Olson B., Nelson E., and Daryl M., earned their 10-mile incentives, and are steadily working towards earning a BOMF T-shirt. Congratulations to Nelson, who not only completed his first race at the MCVET 5K, but did so with blazing speed! Other non-residential members joining the MCVET squad in April include Samuel C, Stephen L., and Catherine W. The MCVET team is growing into a bigger family every month!

Team MCVET’s next big race is the Baltimore 10-miler coming up on June 20th, and preparation is underway. Training coach for the MCVET’s team, Peter M., has been creating longer routes so everyone will be ready on race day. Arnold S, Tate, Bobby A., Deborah B., Kevin R., and Terrell S. are signed up and ready to race.

May couldn’t have ended better for Team MCVET, when Terrell received medical clearance from the doctor to start running. As the leader of the team warm-up and cool down stretching, Terrell has been recovering from a foot injury for since March and was anxiously awaiting the day he could run again. He is ready to race and he wants everyone to watch out because he ‘s coming!!

Quote: “Arnold is one of the most fun members on our team. He is always smiling and having a good time. Whether warming up or after a run, Arnold exudes tons of much positive energy making him an absolute pleasure to be around.”

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: MAYA BRENNAN

Shoe Size: 5.5
Member Since: March 2009

“Seeing the residential members really blossom has been amazing. After around a month of barely speaking or maintaining eye contact, two of the more introverted guys on the team both made announcements to the whole team about how much Back on My Feet means to them. Just seeing that they made such strides in trusting both us and themselves enough to come out of their shells was phenomenal.”
